Choropleth Map

A choropleth map is one that uses graded differences in shading or color or the placing of symbols inside defined areas on the map in order to indicate the average values of some property or quantity in those areas. In this choropleth map, estimated median household income is represented statewide. Darker red shades  indicate higher income brackets. This is a highly effective map for emphasizing demographic patterns, and its easy-to-read format communicates the subject matter within a few seconds, rather than minutes.
